BEYOND BEER
If you plan to get out and about on your East Devon holiday there is plenty to see and do. If you like to walk, the South West Coast Path is spectacular and well serviced by local buses. Beer is part of the East Devon Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty so, in addition to the breathtaking cliffs and coastal walks, there are intimate wooded coves, vast areas of heathland and fertile river banks… the choice of routes is endless.
Just over the hill from Beer is the picture-perfect village of Branscombe; with its two ancient pubs it is the perfect destination after a clifftop walk. Whilst over the hill East is Seaton which has the Tramway and the Wetlands.
Sidmouth is a charming regency town just 15 minutes away. Nestling beneath majestic red cliffs it has beautiful gardens, leisurely walks, interesting shops, a lovely beach and is home to The Donkey Sanctuary.
Lyme Regis, "The Pearl of Dorset", has a special mystique while the estuary town of Topsham has lovely shops and great restaurants, including The Salutation Inn. The cathedral city of Exeter and the maritime city of Plymouth are both less than an hour away. Dartmoor National Park is wild and wonderful, a perfect destination for a unique day trip from Beer.
If you like gardens then a visit to Forde Abbey is a must. Killerton House and Bicton Gardens are also close by together with a lot of local gardens exhibiting in the National Garden Scheme.
So we think Beer is the ideal place where you can be as active or as idle as the mood takes you!
